Zombie Brooches for Halloween!

Updated: Sep 12, 2021

The latest additions to my shop!

As with the majority of my products, they are made from remnants of fabric including felt, fleece, nylon netting and organza. Thread oddments, foils and a few Angelina fibres are encapsulated between the layers - nothing in my workshop goes to waste!

The layers are stitched together before inserting the eyes.

Boggly eyes are made by wrapping chiffon around small pieces of wadding to make a ball. They are then pulled through to the back of the brooch and stitched securely. I used scraps of thin faux leather for the black eyes.

A sequin is added for the pupil which makes the eyes doubly secure.

The layers are then free machine stitched with Glow in the Dark thread onto a thick felt background before trimming.

Glow in the dark thread is used to highlight the shape and features. The brooches are trimmed and a safety catch is hand-sewn to the back. The trimmed bits will be recycled again for future brooches so absolutely no waste!
